Recycling Project
(2018 - 2020)
Recycling Project 1, 2018
Mixed media: reclaimed plastic, yarn
64 × 27 in
Discarded plastic was collected directly from the streets of New York City, as well as from my own use and from friends’ donations. Each piece was carefully washed, handled, and transformed into a new material presence. Once treated as waste, these objects are reintroduced through a process of attentive handling and transformation.
Reflecting on the emotional distance and indifference I experienced in the city, where both people and objects are often treated carelessly, the work seeks to restore a sense of value and bring life back into them. Through this act of reclamation, the materials regain a sense of presence and return as forms imbued with vitality.
